DIY Pumpkin Centerpiece with Dried Flowers and Moss: A Rustic Fall Display

Bring autumn and your garden into your home with a simple, charming DIY pumpkin centerpiece! In this centerpiece you can use dried flowers from your garden or purchased silk if you don’t have dried and moss. This project combines natural textures and colors for a rustic look that perfect for the season.
What You’ll Need:
- Medium-sized pumpkin (white green or orange, depending on your style)
- Dried flowers (like hydrangeas, alliums, strawflowers, statice, baby’s breath, or any dried blooms of your choice)
- Moss or Spanish moss
- Hot glue gun (or floral adhesive if preferred)
- Pruning shears or scissors
- Optional: Small candle or mini pumpkin for the center
Instructions:
Step 1: Prep the Pumpkin
- Choose your pumpkin: Select a sturdy pumpkin with a flat top if possible. I used a green pumpkin to match my Thanksgiving table.
Step 2: Apply the Moss Base
- Glue on moss: Using a hot glue gun, add a generous amount of glue to the top of the pumpkin. I also put the glue on the moss.
- Place the moss: Press the moss onto the glue, covering the entire top of the pumpkin. The moss acts as a cushion for the flowers and creates a soft, natural base.

Step 3: Arrange the Dried Flowers
- Trim flower stems: Cut the stems of your dried flowers to about 2-3 inches, making them easier to nestle into the moss.
- Start with larger flowers: Arrange larger blooms around the pumpkin’s center, securing with a small dot of glue at the base of each stem. For mine, I chose to add dried Hydrangeas first.
- Fill in with smaller flowers: Work outward, adding smaller flowers and bits of greenery to fill any gaps. Alternate colors and textures for a fuller, layered look.
- Add Accents: Tuck in extra bits of moss or small dried accents (like seed pods or tiny pinecones) for extra depth and interest.

Step 4: Optional Finishing Touch
- For added charm, place a mini pumpkin or a small candle in the center. Just nestle it into the flowers, using a bit of glue if needed for stability.

Step 5: Display Your Centerpiece
Find a cozy spot to display your new pumpkin centerpiece! Whether on a dining table, entryway, or mantel, this lovely DIY piece adds warmth and seasonal charm to any space. I am using mine as a centerpiece for my Thanksgiving table. I hope you enjoy your Fall creation from Old Castle Cottage
