Inside Our Garden-Inspired French Cottage Christmas Home Tour

Now that the garden is tucked in for its long winter nap, my focus has shifted indoors decorating our home for the holidays. This year, I’m embracing a French cottage twist on natural Christmas décor, blending soft elegance with organic textures and the slower, more intentional pace I’ve been craving.

Instead of starting fresh, I chose to reuse and repurpose many of my favorite pieces from last year, a practice that feels both sustainable, soulful and to be honest, money saving. Dried hydrangeas and alliums from the garden, foraged pinecones, and preserved greenery add texture and authenticity, while touches of gold and soft blue create that understated French charm I love so much.

Living Room 

Let’s start the tour with the heart of our home which is our living room, where our tree glows with layers of nature-inspired beauty. This year’s design features velvet ribbons in French blue, dried hydrangeas, and alliums, pear and berry accents, and ornaments in shades of gold, cream, and toile blue.

Each branch tells a story from the delicate pinecones and botanical details to the glimmer of our grandparents’ vintage gold ornaments and hand-painted ornaments I added this year. The overall look is timeless, with just the right amount of sparkle.

The mantel is always a favorite to style each season, and this year I wanted it to feel like a walk through a winter garden. Magnolia leaves, Hydrangeas, alliums, eucalyptus, and faux pears are intertwined with candlelight and vintage brass accents. My blue-and-white pitcher anchors one side a nod to my love of French antiques and collected pieces with history.

Kitchen

Now let’s head into the kitchen which opens to the dining area. In the kitchen, the holiday touches continue with the same French cottage charm that flows through the rest of the home. I kept the look simple and natural, layering greenery, dried hydrangeas, and sprigs of magnolia around vintage blue-and-white pieces and a vintage urn which gives a timeless timeworn feel. As the holiday gets closer, I will replace the pinecones in the urn with white roses and greenery and of course my mother’s vintage China for a simple table setting. It’s a space that feels warm and welcoming.

Where the scent of evergreens mingles with holiday baking and every detail celebrates the beauty of reusing what we love, year after year.

Library

In the library, and if you have been following over the years, we call it Santa’s Woodland Cabin. I wanted to create a cozy woodland retreat for my grandchildren that feels like stepping into an old storybook.

This room always leans warm and layered, so I embraced that with a tree that celebrates nature filled with owls, pinecones, birch branches, and tiny birdhouses tucked between shimmering snowflakes, frosted greens and potted trees from Jackson and Perkins. The textures are soft and earthy, from dried hydrangeas and lotus pods to twigs gathered on autumn walks. Nearby, a rustic arrangement of evergreens, pheasant feathers, and magnolia leaves sits on a fur throw, bringing a natural elegance to the space.

It’s a room made for curling up with a book by the fire, surrounded by the peaceful beauty of a winter woodland brought indoors. This is a tradition my grandchildren love  year after year.

Bedroom

The last room in the house on this tour is the bedroom. The bedroom might be my  favorite space to decorate during the holidays because it always feels like creating a quiet winter retreat just for us.

This year, I carried the same soft, French-inspired palette into the room with layers of whites, icy silvers, and gentle blue tones that feel serene and elegant. The flocked tree in the corner glows softly with warm lights, sparkling mercury glass ornaments, and tiny white birds tucked between the branches, paired with cozy bedding, fur throws, and patterned pillows, the room becomes a calm, welcoming cocoon. The perfect place to unwind at the end of a festive day.

Since this year’s holiday home tour comes a bit early, my outdoor decorating isn’t quite finished yet.

The garlands are still being fluffed, and the urns are waiting for their winter greens. Except my two Magnolia wreaths from Jackson and Perkins which I am using as a jumping off point. So instead, I thought it would be fun to share a look back at last year’s outdoor Christmas decor. I can’t wait to bring that same magic back outdoors again this year with a few new ideas inspired by the garden, of course.

Throughout our home, I’ve kept the focus on natural textures and simple comforts, flickering candles, soft throws, vintage artwork, and fresh greens that fill the air with the scent of Christmas. Even our little pup has claimed his favorite chair by the fire, making this space feel extra cozy and lived in.

This year’s theme, A French Cottage Christmas is about slowing down, savoring the season, and surrounding ourselves with the beauty that nature (and a little creativity) can bring indoors.
